I wrote this song after I watched The Handmaid's Tale. That show seriously f'd me up. I know the book and author of course, but seeing the actual story come to life was devastating. It's psychotic how we are still fighting for freedom over our bodies, our careers, and our believability when we say #metoo. It ended up being the title track of this record because it captures that cold feeling that comes when the fire goes out, when it feel like all is lost. But there are still embers, glowing embers that we can re-ignite. That's the darkest light.
